As your brown eyes fluttered in the candlelightÂ
I knew it was time to call it a nightÂ
But the sound of thunderÂ
Shook the blanket we sat under.
3 AM rain ain’t the kind of terrainÂ
You want to be sliding down the fast laneÂ
So I suggested the couch keep you warm
Until the end of the storm.
You thought of your dog at homeÂ
Whose legs probably needed to roam
Then figured his considerate furÂ
Would hope you’d wait ‘til the roads weren’t a blur.
Gave you the rest of the fuzzy blueÂ
Initially gifted by youÂ
Before lying on the space next door
Whispering for you to have sweet dreams in store.
Your soft steady breathing was richly relieving,Â
A peace beyond any peacemaker’s conceivingÂ
And I felt all of life harmonizeÂ
When I saw your eyes at sunrise.Â
