Your Eyes At Sunrise

Sam Hendrian

Jan 26, 2026

As your brown eyes fluttered in the candlelight

I knew it was time to call it a night

But the sound of thunder

Shook the blanket we sat under.

3 AM rain ain’t the kind of terrain

You want to be sliding down the fast lane

So I suggested the couch keep you warm

Until the end of the storm.

You thought of your dog at home

Whose legs probably needed to roam

Then figured his considerate fur

Would hope you’d wait ‘til the roads weren’t a blur.

Gave you the rest of the fuzzy blue

Initially gifted by you

Before lying on the space next door

Whispering for you to have sweet dreams in store.

Your soft steady breathing was richly relieving,

A peace beyond any peacemaker’s conceiving

And I felt all of life harmonize

When I saw your eyes at sunrise.
