You are still my poem
My song, my prayer, my secret
Songs never came easy to me until you disappeared
Without a hand to hold I had to pick up a pen instead
Now my pain is praised because it matches a melody
I whisper your name in prayer
I pray to a god your father uses as an excuse for hatred
I beg for your wellbeing to the god he taught you does not tolerate our sin
You traded heaven for my lips
I traded heaven for your soul and when we meet again in hell I will still ask you if it was worth it
Keeping your secret was the last thing you ever asked of me
I call it a question but the truth is you said it like a threat
A secret for a secret
I told my secret and in doing so took your power
I replaced it with one that you can never use against me
My secret is that you are still my poem
My secret is that every time I play my guitar I am still playing it for you
My secret is that everytime I hear sirens God hears your name
My secret is that there is a stranger in the hall who knows me better than my own best friend
My teacher said that to love is to remember and it is for that reason I am terrified I will never stop loving you
You are still my song, my prayer, my secret
You are still my poem
