Aloft within a scripture

The echoes of the original voices silent

Tales and fables no different than

A beast with bloody paws

And a gaping monolithic maw.

A warning, a bedtime story, told in too many tongues.

A horror and an anger festering

Of things too old to hold in living memory.

Of a tower built hand in hand and brick by brick

Meant to mind the dome upon the earth,

Tall enough to stand upon and reach a hand beyond.

Clawed hands cradling dirt

Carving divots into earth

If we dug down deep enough

Would the devil deliver us

Our long lost common tongue?
